Through online questionnaires, we gathered people’s top favorite flavors and organized the data with flavors ranging from sweet to salty, then took an average of our ratings of the most sweet and savory flavors. We used a range between zero and four; zero being the sweetest flavor and four being the saltiest or most savory flavor.
Above is our scale, starting with the sweetest to most savory flavors.
We found that the majority of people’s favorite flavors were on the sweet side of the spectrum.
As you can see, the majority of the graph is of green color, which means that people perceived most of the flavors as sweet rather than savory or salty. We tried to illustrate this in our visualization, by color-coding the sweet flavors with shades of green.
