Recipes from the Inside Out

We took a look at the ingredients used in 67 different recipes. We then input this information into an analytics program to map out the ingredient network and look for what ingredients are used the most.

Overview

After inputting the data, we used the analytics program to separate these ingredients and then visually group them together based upon how prevalent they are in this recipe network. Those recipes were subsequently lumped together based upon how similar they were in terms of ingredients. Then the information was colorized for aesthetic purposes.

Garlic

Garlic was the most prevalent ingredient throughout these recipes. This image helps pinpoint it's vast network. The blue lines represent connections to all of the recipes that use garlic.

Salt and Pepper

Salt and Pepper was a close second, and is represented by the red lines.

Conclusions

People love garlic and salt and pepper. It's as simple as that. The importance of these two ingredients is clearly evident in this network. No matter what you eat, there is a pretty good chance it contains atleast one of these ingredients. There is no escaping the will of the garlic, nor the dominion of salt and pepper.
